Kaufman and Hart’s collaborative portrait of the Sycamore’s – a charming, amiable, chaotic and free-thinking family. When Alice, the youngest Sycamore, and Tony, of the formal and proper Kirbys, plans to marry, worlds collide in a touching and hilarious manner. This 1937 Nobel Prize winner is just as relevant in today’s difficult times, reminding us to beware of greed, live in the moment, and follow our hearts.
Reviews
"All the actors are fun to watch and have their shining moments. To single out any would be to neglect others—suffice to say director Jensen has assembled an ensemble that clearly understands the material and knows how to deliver it to us." nytheatre.com
"Peter Judd is excellent as Grandpa, particularly as he delivers a hilarious and yet strangely reasonable monologue to an IRS man (Blake Hackler)..." offoffonline.com
"...The ensemble admirably captures the blithe irreverence of Kaufman and Hart's writing. I especially relished Helen Louise Azzara's hilarious turn as the snake-hating Mrs. Kirby." backstage.com, A. J. Mell
"In You Can’t Take It With You, now being revived Off–Off Broadway by the tiny T. Schreiber Studio, Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman put every character, every entrance, every line at the service of their marvelous comic machine." New York Magazine
"T. Schreiber Studio’s intimate theater makes the audience part of the family, bringing us right into the Sycamores’ tastefully, if erratically, furnished living room..." NewTheatreCorps, Ilena George
